Community Classes & Gatherings
Namaqua welcomes community-led programs that bring people together for learning, reflection, creativity, and connection. Explore the following gatherings hosted in our spaces!
These programs are independently organized by community members and outside groups. Please contact the organizers directly for additional information.
West African Drumming Class
Mondays | 11:00 AM–12:30 PM | NUUC Sanctuary
Join our welcoming West African drumming class, open to all levels! Beginners will learn basic drum sounds and fundamental patterns, while experienced drummers will be challenged with solo phrases, breaks, and traditional dunun. No experience is needed, and drums are provided if needed.
Because the material in each six-week class builds from week to week, please contact Dee before joining to discuss the best time to start. If you need to use a drum, please also contact Dee in advance so one can be made available.
Come experience the joy of drumming together!

Lunchtime Meditations: Inspiring Solutions for Difficult Times
Modern Kadampa Buddhist Meditation Classes
Wednesdays | Noon–1:00 PM | NUUC Parker Hall
Led by ordained Buddhist nun Kelsang Evam, teacher at the Heruka Kadampa Meditation Center.
When things go wrong, we often regard the situation itself as the problem. In reality, whatever problems we experience come from the mind. These classes offer practical, uplifting explanations for transforming day-to-day challenges into opportunities for personal and spiritual growth.
Suggested Donation: $10. No one turned away for lack of funds.
