Music
Music is an integral part of the Namaqua community. Our Director of Music, Ryan Marvel, believes in the transformative power of music. He collaborates closely with the worship and ministry teams to bring diverse, healing, and uplifting music that enhances the spirituality and meaning of our services.
Our members are passionate about music and love to share their talents. If you’re interested in joining them or have questions about how to get involved in the music program, contact Ryan Marvel at MusicDir@NamaquaUU.org.

CHOIR
Our adult choir sings a wide variety of music, including world, classical, contemporary, and chant. We believe that joining our voices in song builds community and brings us all closer together—and we have a lot of fun while doing it!
We meet each Thursday evening from 6:30–8:00 PM in the Sanctuary. We generally sing 1–2 times per month for Sunday services, September through May. No audition is necessary—just an enthusiasm for music. All are welcome!
UUKES (Ukulele Lessons & Community Fun!)
Looking to learn the ukulele and have fun? Whether you’re a beginner or have some experience, our group is the perfect place to build your skills and enjoy music. We start each session by teaching basic chords and strumming techniques, and we’ll have extra ukuleles available for anyone who wants to try it out before purchasing their own.
Expect lots of fun, good music, and great company! No experience required—just bring your enthusiasm for learning and playing.
We meet in Parker Hall at 6:30 PM on the first and third Wednesday of each month (except during the summer). For more information, contact Marion at 970-342-3852 or email cox.mari@gmail.com.
Music Ministry
Our Music Ministry plays a vital role in the spiritual and communal life of Namaqua Unitarian Universalist Congregation. In partnership with our music director, minister, and worship associates, we help ensure that every Sunday service features inspiring and meaningful music that uplifts and connects our community.
We support a range of musical experiences, from our beloved NUUC Choir and UUKES (our ukulele group) to guest performances funded by the Fleming Memorial Music Fund. This fund allows us to bring in professional guest musicians who enrich our worship services with diverse musical styles. Each year, we organize a musical fundraiser, often featuring a special guest artist or ensemble, to celebrate the joy of music and raise funds for future programming.
The Music Ministry also helps maintain our music library and NUUC’s collection of musical instruments, establishing thoughtful guidelines for their use. We work closely with the music director to create an annual, goal-based music budget and collaborate with other congregational ministries to align musical offerings with broader community goals.
Music is a shared expression of creativity, connection, and community. We welcome everyone who loves music to join us in creating something meaningful together.
