Getting to Know UU: Every 4th Sunday of the month – For newcomers and explorers, join us for an informal get-together after the Sunday service to meet and greet and answer any questions you might have about Unitarian Universalism and Namaqua. We often share (briefly) our spiritual/ethical journeys. Meet in Dana’s office.
Exploring Membership: Curious about Membership? Join Rev. Dana and the Membership Ministry for our Exploring Membership class to share your story, discover ways to be involved, and learn more about the UU denomination and Namaqua in particular. We would love to have you become a member with us!
Mindfulness Group: This open group welcomes everyone to drop in anytime. Our meetings focus on guided meditations and thoughtful discussions, providing a nurturing space to explore mindfulness practices. You’ll find a supportive community to connect with as we embark on this journey of self-discovery and presence together. For info on upcoming sessions, contact Susan at smssmoody7@gmail.com or Janen at namaquadre@gmail.com.
NUUC Women’s Group: The Namaqua UU Congregation Women’s Group is a welcoming space for all who identify as women. Our mission is to foster beloved community, love, peace, and justice through engaging conversation, creativity, thought-provoking topics, laughter, and authentic expression. Each month, responsibilities for our meetings are shared among members, who contribute presentations or activities of their choosing. We prioritize confidentiality and uphold a covenant of care and support, embodying the values of Unitarian Universalism while nurturing a sense of purpose and togetherness.
UU Writers: Every 3rd Friday of the month, 1:00-3:00 p.m. Participants share and support each other’s writing in various forms (journaling, poetry, prose). Each month includes a packet with writing exercises and “in-group” activities to explore a theme. We focus on self-discovery through Soul Matters deep listening rather than critique.
Book Group: How to Be an Antiracist, by Ibram Kendi: Kendi’s book explores racism and its intersections with other oppressions, offering practical advice for anti-racist advocacy. While White Fragility highlights the problem of white privilege, How to Be an Antiracist focuses on solutions. The group will meet for 6 weekly sessions; exact times will be set once sign-ups are sufficient. Questions? Contact dougestewart@gmail.com.
Seeing Systems, Peace, Justice, and Sustainability: This 6-session course connects the dots between three of society’s most pressing challenges to find pathways for powerful change in our everyday lives. Former NUUC participant: “Seeing Systems is the most substantive, meaningful course I know that looks at the major inter-connected issues facing every individual, organization or community. ” 6 two-hour sessions, text $32, scholarship available. More info at ecochallenge.org. Days / times to be determined when enough participants sign up. Limit 12 participants. Questions? Contact Doug Stewart, dougestewart@gmail.com.
Life Transitions Workshop: We all go through life transitions and will face many more. Job changes, retirement, marriage, divorce, birth, death, and moving are just a few examples. This 3-hour workshop presents a 3-stage transitions framework based on William Bridges’ work and provides validation for our transition experiences. Facilitated by Doug Stewart.
